Dua Lipa Is Suing Samsung For $15 Million
The singer accused the tech giant of illegally using her likeness to sell TVs.
www.engadget.comDua Lipa has reportedly filed a $15 million lawsuit against Samsung, accusing the company of using her image on TV packaging and promotional materials without permission. The latest reports say she alleges copyright, trademark, and publicity-rights violations, and that Samsung ignored requests to stop.[3][9]
According to the coverage, the image appears to have been used on cardboard TV boxes sold in the U.S., creating the impression that she endorsed Samsung TVs when she did not.[1][7] Reports also say the photo was taken backstage at the 2024 Austin City Limits Festival and that Lipa owns the copyright to it.[7][1]
The reports I found do not include a substantive public response from Samsung yet; one account says Samsung declined comment because the matter is in litigation.[1]
At this stage, this is a lawsuit allegation, not a final ruling. The case centers on unauthorized commercial use of a celebrity image and whether that use implied an endorsement.[9][1]
