Rescue teams now warn the area has sudden, powerful currents that can pull swimmers down. A local resident said a new drowning nearby made him send out a safety alert. Police also think a second girl might be unaccounted for from the same spot. In Maine, a lobsterman said his dog pulled a trapped seagull out of the water. Out in Los Angeles, a well-known face was spotted socializing with friends. In North Carolina, a crowded dog adoption event drew families for the holiday.
