Labour MP Shabana Mahmood has introduced a scheme for a new refugee pathway inspired by Canada’s model.
It would allow firms, higher‑education institutions and local organisations to sponsor refugees, providing them with housing and employment support.
The objective is to hasten settlement and reduce pressure on the existing system.
Mahmood says the route could welcome thousands of new arrivals, like the Ukrainian model implemented previously.
Critics argue the scheme could strain public services.
The government has not provided a timetable.
