Jessica Simpson, 45, is celebrating eight years of sobriety while going through the end of her 11-year marriage to Eric Johnson. On November 1, the singer and fashion entrepreneur shared a reflective post on Instagram, including a radiant selfie and a moving statement about her journey toward healing and self-awareness.
“Eight years ago today I made the choice to confront, to confess and to let go of the self-sabotaging parts of my life that I was choosing.”
Simpson explained that letting go of alcohol brought a deeper sense of purpose and connection to her faith.
“Making that decision allowed me to fully live in the pursuit of God’s purpose for my life. Alcohol silenced my intuition, blocked my dreams and chased my circulating fears of complacency.”
She added that her sobriety has strengthened her faith and reshaped her outlook on life.
“Today I am clear. Today I am driven by faith… I’m so happy I chose faith over fear. It was not in the fight that I found my strength, it was in the surrender.”
Simpson also shared that sobriety has reignited her creativity. In an interview with The Cut earlier this year, she reflected on the fear that once held her back while she was still drinking.
“Every time I would write, I was a little afraid of myself… especially because I was drinking at the time. But once I gave up the alcohol, the fears just diminished. They went away.”
Her decision to quit drinking not only brought clarity but also gave her the courage to embrace new beginnings amid personal change, including filing for divorce from Johnson earlier this year.
Simpson’s journey shows that faith and self-awareness can pave the way to lasting renewal, even through personal upheaval and change.
