ITV Lorraine star addresses being drunk live on show after apologising to bosses

ITV Lorraine Star Opens Up About Being Drunk Live on Air

Dr Hilary Jones, a long-time guest on the ITV morning show Lorraine, has spoken candidly about a moment earlier in his career when he appeared on air while slightly drunk. Known for his expert medical advice, he recalled the incident with humour and relief.

The Incident in Times Square

Reflecting on the event, Dr Hilary, now 72, explained that it happened after running the New York Marathon. He had gone out to celebrate with his brothers and drank alcohol without much food or rest before a scheduled live segment with Lorraine Kelly from a remote studio in Times Square.

“I’d run the New York Marathon and met up with two of my brothers to celebrate. I hadn’t eaten or drunk properly, and there was a lot of beer. I was due to do a live segment from a remote studio in Times Square with Lorraine.”

The On-Air Moment

The doctor admitted that as he tried to manage the technical setup, the broadcast unexpectedly went live, leaving him unprepared. He said he found himself laughing uncontrollably and making little sense during the interview.

“All I remember was giggling, laughing, and talking rubbish because I was actually a bit drunk. Afterwards I thought, ‘They’re going to sack me. What did I say?’”

His Reaction and Apology

Concerned about his professionalism, Dr Hilary decided to call the show's producers the next day to apologise for his behaviour.

“I phoned them and said, ‘I’m really sorry,’ and they said, ‘Why? You sounded brilliant! You just sounded happy and full of energy.’ So I got away with it.”

Author’s Summary

Dr Hilary Jones light-heartedly revealed how a post-marathon celebration once led to a tipsy TV appearance that surprisingly charmed his ITV Lorraine colleagues.
