Brahim Kaddour-Cherif, who was accidentally released from HMP Wandsworth in London on October 29, has been identified. The 24-year-old remains at large. He was serving time for trespass with intent to steal but has a prior record of sexual offences.
Kaddour-Cherif appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court in September on a charge of failing to comply with sex offender requirements.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that he is of Algerian descent and are conducting urgent enquiries to locate him and return him to custody.
Labour MP for Tooting Dr Rosena Allin-Khan expressed her shock, stating: "Local residents will quite rightly be deeply concerned. We urgently need answers from the Government and Ministry of Justice as to how this was allowed to happen."
This case follows a recent incident where Hadush Kebatu, a 38-year-old convicted sex offender from Ethiopia, was mistakenly released from HMP Chelmsford. He was free for three days before being arrested in a north London park. Kebatu was spotted boarding a train to London prior to his capture.
He was pictured being led away by plain-clothed officers near a bus stop in Finsbury Park on October 26.
These incidents highlight serious lapses in prison security, raising public concern and demands for accountability from the authorities.
