James Overy, a promising talent from Manchester United Academy, has received his first senior international call-up for Australia’s November fixtures. This marks a significant milestone in the 17-year-old full-back’s career.
Overy has spent the last month training with Manchester United’s senior squad, following his participation in Australia’s U20 World Cup campaign in Chile. This period has allowed him to train alongside, and compete with, established professionals such as Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw.
While it remains uncertain when Overy will make his senior debut for Manchester United, the club’s manager Ruben Amorim has previously given opportunities to young talents, debuting three players last season. Reports indicate Overy has impressed the coaching staff since joining the first team training sessions.
Just a month after being the youngest member of Australia’s U20 World Cup squad, Overy has now been called up to the senior national team. Australia’s manager, Tony Popovic, signaled the possibility of Overy making his senior debut in one of the two friendlies scheduled for November.
"Tony Popovic has opened the door for the United youngster to make his senior debut in one of the two upcoming friendly matches later this month."
Overy, who has also represented Scotland at youth level, is now set to further his international career with Australia as he approaches senior football milestones.
James Overy’s swift rise from Australia’s U20 squad to senior call-up and first-team training at Manchester United highlights his growing potential on both club and international stages.
