Tom Morris, Channel 9’s chief football reporter, has made a surprising move by joining rival network Channel 7. The 34-year-old informed Channel 9 on Friday morning that he accepted a lucrative offer from Channel 7, according to Code Sports.
The successful recruitment is credited to Seven’s head of sport, Chris Jones, and SEN boss Craig Hutchison. Morris will join a strong lineup of football talent at Channel 7.
Despite the high-profile switch, Morris is not expected to take a leading on-air role, as Mitch Cleary remains Channel 7’s chief football reporter. Together with Cleary and Xander McGuire—who was also recently poached from Channel 9—they form a powerful reporting team.
