Lindsay Sandiford, 69, convicted 13 years ago for smuggling £1.6 million worth of cocaine into Bali, was seen arriving at Heathrow's Terminal 4 on Friday. The British grandmother, who spent over a decade on death row in Indonesia, touched down in the UK after being spared execution.
Sandiford was photographed in a wheelchair, dressed in black leggings and a green cardigan, covering her face with her clothing. She left Indonesia early Friday following a humanitarian agreement between Jakarta and London, allowing her and another British prisoner to be repatriated.
The British government reportedly spent £600 on Sandiford's flight back to the UK. Before departure, she was seen at a handover ceremony at Kerobokan Prison.
UK Deputy Ambassador to Indonesia Matthew Downing said: "Lindsay Sandiford and Shahab Shahabadi have serious health conditions and are being repatriated on humanitarian grounds."
This marks a significant diplomatic effort to address cases involving British citizens facing severe sentences abroad.
