Sussan Ley has remained silent on criticisms of her leadership, insisting the Liberal Party stays “united” despite claims from a backbencher that the Coalition leader is losing party room confidence.
After months of internal conflict destabilizing Ms. Ley’s position, the Liberals are set to address a divisive emissions target and finalize an energy policy next week.
Liberal senator Sarah Henderson raised concerns on Friday but stopped short of fully backing Ms. Ley.
“I am just going to say at the moment that I cannot support the way things are,” Henderson told Sky News when asked if she supported Ms. Ley leading the opposition.
Ms. Ley, speaking in Canberra, declined to comment on leadership speculation.
“I value every single member of my team, including (Senator Henderson),” she said. “In order to interrogate her views, you should probably ask her, I’m not commenting on commentary.”
She emphasized that the Liberal Party remains “united through its values.”
These decisions are expected to impact the party's cohesion and Ms. Ley’s leadership stability.
