AFLW: Biddell reflects on road to 75 games as Crows eye finals success

AFLW: Chelsea Biddell Reflects on Milestone and Leadership

Adelaide defender Chelsea Biddell will play her 75th AFLW game on Sunday in the Crows’ elimination final against St Kilda. Over the years, Biddell has developed her leadership skills both on and off the field, embracing a stronger voice within the team.

Leadership Growth

Being voted into the Crows’ leadership group for the first time this season was a special moment for Biddell. She described it as a recognition of her steady development.

“That was pretty special to be announced as part of the leadership group this year, especially to be voted in by your peers, it’s very nice.”

She explained how leadership has been a skill she worked hard to improve, especially as she became one of the more experienced players. Developing her communication and voice on the field was a significant challenge for her.

“(Leadership) has been something I’ve been working on over the years, when I started to get games consistently, it was then being able to bring others along with me. I had to work really hard on that part of my game, especially when I started to become one of the more experienced players. It’s definitely been challenging. In terms of on the field, I’m not really the loudest person, so I think it was just (developing) that voice and communication that I really had to build on.”

Journey to 75 Games

Although Biddell is now a key figure in the Crows' defensive line, her path to this milestone was not straightforward. Drafted as a forward in 2019, she found it difficult to secure a consistent spot in a strong team and fluctuated in and out of the side.

Her switch from forward to defender in 2022 proved pivotal in cementing her place in the team.

Summary

Chelsea Biddell’s dedication to leadership development and positional switch highlight her resilience and commitment as she reaches her 75-game milestone with the Crows.
