Recent work on the North Quays has become more visible, showcasing steady progress on key developments such as the Sustainable Transport Bridge, the new train station, and the South Quays Plaza near the Clock Tower.
The front elevation of the train station is now visible after scaffolding removal. The northern plaza, which will include bus and car drop-off points and access to the South East Greenway, is advancing well with curb and paving installation.
Construction of the station’s structure will conclude in the coming months, including roofing, paving, external rendering, and internal fit-out. However, significant electrical and mechanical installations remain before completion.
“The station can only open once it passes through all the independent safety and compliance checks, and those will continue all through 2026 and into 2027,” said Waterford Council Senior Engineer Sean Dobbs.
The station is projected to open in 2027.
The bridge is now fully installed, and its opening spans are functioning correctly. BAM continues to test the mechanism regularly by opening and closing the spans.
Over the next few months, crews will focus on completion details such as surfacing, glass panel installation, railings, lighting, seating, and other architectural finishes to finalize the project appearance.
Visible progress continues on Waterford’s key North Quays infrastructure, with the bridge operational and the train station nearing completion ahead of its 2027 opening.
