On Friday morning in Calgary, fog gave way to snowfall, though the snow is not expected to last. Snow began falling in the downtown area around 8:30 a.m. as flakes moved southward from the north. Earlier, fog caused poor visibility, leading Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) to issue an advisory.
Alongside fog, ECCC also warned of rain or snow and the potential for freezing rain.
“Precipitation was in the forecast for the morning hours, but our temperature stayed just cool enough to keep most of that mix as snow. Once it’s gone, it’s pretty much gone, and as we enter the 9 o’clock hour, we can expect most of that to fully back away,”
said 660 NewsRadio meteorologist Kevin Stanfield.
He added, “Our high today hits 3 C, so any area that caught a new coat will likely see that melt off too.”
Motorists are advised to exercise caution while driving due to the changing weather conditions.
Author’s summary: Calgary’s fog transitioned to snow early Friday, but warm temperatures suggest the snowfall will quickly melt, though drivers should remain cautious.
