Blue-green Algae Advisory Lifted for Eagle Lake
Alberta Health Services (AHS) has ended the blue-green algae advisory for Eagle Lake, located southeast of Strathmore. This change took effect on Wednesday.
Reason for Lifting the Advisory
Cooler temperatures have helped reduce the lake's temperature, decreasing the health risks associated with cyanobacteria, commonly known as blue-green algae.
Previous Warnings
- Eagle Lake, in Wheatland County about 45 minutes east of Calgary, was under an advisory to avoid contact with the algae.
- Officials previously warned against using untreated lake water for drinking or cooking.
- Boiling the water does not eliminate the toxins present in the algae.
- People were advised to use alternative water sources for themselves, their pets, and livestock whenever algae were present.
