Although Alberta’s official fire season ends on Friday, dry and windy weather in the southern part of the province has prompted new fire advisories, particularly in Rocky View County.
The county has declared a moderate fire risk for both the east and west sides of Rocky View County due to ongoing dry conditions combined with wind.
Rocky View County Deputy Fire Chief Bill Messner noted, “This is definitely a period of season where honestly the weather can change very rapidly.”
He added that while late-season advisories are common, the current dry spell has already caused a rise in grass fires, some reaching as many as three in one day.
Messner mentioned that some fires might be caused by human actions, such as discarded lit cigarettes.
"Please use the proper receptacles. Please don't flick them out of the window. That definitely can cause a lot of issues that way," he emphasized.
Messner has not specified when the advisory will be lifted but expects it to remain active for at least another week as dry weather continues.
Summary: Rocky View County faces a moderate fire risk due to dry, windy conditions, prompting a fire advisory and ban, with ongoing vigilance urged to prevent human-caused fires.
