Those planning to visit the Rockies this weekend should prepare for more than typical hiking conditions, as winter weather is set to arrive in Alberta.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a snowfall warning for Alberta’s mountain regions. Heavy, wet snow is expected to start Friday evening and continue through Saturday night, particularly in Banff and near Lake Louise.
Forecasts predict between 10 and 15 centimetres of snow over a 24-hour period.
“Travel will likely be challenging. Roads and walkways will likely be difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.”
Travellers heading to the mountains are urged to plan carefully. ECCC advises leaving extra travel time, keeping headlights on, reducing speed, and maintaining a safe following distance.
For those interested in Alberta’s November forecast, current weather alerts and updates are available on the ECCC weather information portal.
