The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are coming off their bye week, but wide receiver Chris Godwin is unlikely to play in Sunday's game against the New England Patriots.
"Dealing with a fibula issue," ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported on SportsCenter. "With him coming back with the injury last year as well, and then he aggravated his fibula earlier in the year. They just don't want to press it with him. They're thinking late-November, December with Chris Godwin. They'll take it week-to-week with him."
When healthy, Godwin is a crucial offensive player, having surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in four seasons, including three consecutive years from 2021 to 2023. Recent injuries have hindered his ability to maintain these performances.
The Buccaneers’ wide receiver injuries highlight the importance of drafting Emeka Egbuka in the first round. The Ohio State product currently leads the team with 34 receptions, 562 receiving yards, and five touchdown catches, and will continue to be the favorite target of quarterback Baker Mayfield.
Summary: Chris Godwin’s recurring fibula injury keeps him sidelined, emphasizing Tampa Bay’s reliance on Emeka Egbuka amid a series of key injuries at wide receiver.
