Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll has been sent to the AHL’s Toronto Marlies for a conditioning stint, he confirmed to reporters on Friday.
The 27-year-old Woll left the team during training camp to handle a personal matter and did not return until October. As he was on long-term injury reserve, he was ineligible to play until November. After practicing with the Maple Leafs last week, his time with the Marlies will help him regain game shape before rejoining the main roster.
“I’ve been really blown away by how much support I’ve received,” Woll said. “I’ve decided that all I’m going to say about my time away is that I’m disappointed to have missed time and I’m very happy to be back. I’d really like all the focus to be on my job here and I don’t want to create any distractions for myself or for the team.”
Woll’s conditioning stint marks an important step in his recovery and return to NHL action.
