Arne Slot appears to be preparing for upcoming matches with Andy Robertson as Liverpool’s first-choice left-back, reigniting contract discussions around the player. Robertson has started the last three games, including fixtures against Aston Villa and Real Madrid, stepping in for Milos Kerkez.
With Milos Kerkez struggling early this season, the Liverpool vice-captain has been influential in securing back-to-back wins after a difficult run, where the team lost six of seven games. When asked if Robertson would start against Manchester City, Slot suggested he intends to rely on him.
“He started three games in seven days, because he also played the game against Crystal Palace,” the head coach said. “I had to take him off at the end of the game [against Real], because I felt he was tired. We had recovery the day after, they were day off yesterday and now two-day lead into City. So let’s see where he is today.”
Throughout nine seasons at Liverpool, Robertson has demonstrated consistent fitness and dedication off the pitch, enabling him to perform amid a demanding schedule. Despite rumours of a summer transfer, including an offer from Atletico Madrid, discussions about a new contract have re-emerged.
“It’s been a while since I’ve heard the word ‘contract’, but there it is again,” Slot laughed.
Andy Robertson’s steady performances and fitness have solidified his role as Liverpool’s first-choice left-back, prompting renewed talks about his contract extension amid interest from other clubs.
