Fujian Guohang Ocean Shipping (Group) Co., Ltd. has announced the termination of its plan to construct two 73,800 DWT domestic bulk carriers as part of a broader strategic adjustment.
According to a recent progress report on a key contract, the company’s board of directors approved a resolution to halt the construction agreement for the vessels, effectively canceling the previously planned order.
“Guohang Ocean Shipping has voluntarily terminated the order for two 73,800 DWT bulk carriers,” the company stated in the announcement.
The two ships were to be built by Jiangsu Haitong Offshore Engineering Equipment Co., Ltd., with the contract originally signed on January 28, 2024. These vessels were optional units included in the broader 4+2 bulk carrier deal of 73,800 DWT signed by both companies in January 2023.
Earlier, the firm had endorsed the plan at its 15th Extraordinary Board Meeting on November 28, 2023, and during the 6th Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders on December 15, 2023. During these meetings, Guohang reaffirmed its intention to proceed with Jiangsu Haitong on the project before its recent shift in direction.
Guohang Ocean Shipping halted construction of two bulk carriers, reversing a previous shipbuilding plan as part of a new strategic realignment.
