Montreal Canadiens goaltender Jakub Dobes fought back tears while accepting full responsibility for the 4-3 overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils on Thursday. Dobes entered the game with an unbeaten 5-0-0 record but made 24 saves with an .857 save percentage, keeping the Canadiens competitive despite a tough third period.
Dobes reflected on the team’s effort, saying they played well but his performance was not enough to secure the victory.
“The team played hard; I just couldn’t hold it in the end. I take full responsibility.”
Coach Martin St. Louis expressed confidence in the young goalie despite the loss, highlighting Dobes’ strong season stats of a 6-0-1 record, a 1.97 goals-against average, and a .930 save percentage across seven starts.
“Jakub has shown incredible resilience and skill; we stand behind him fully,” St. Louis said.
The Canadiens will face the Utah Mammoth next on Saturday.
Jakub Dobes took responsibility for the overtime defeat, but the team’s support and his solid season stats showcase his promising talent as the Canadiens prepare for their next game.
