Junaid Ahmed is known as a TV personality on The Only Way Is Essex (TOWIE) after joining the cast in 2022. He made history as the UK's first openly gay Muslim reality television star, opening new conversations about identity and acceptance on mainstream TV. His lively and stylish presence on the show is well recognized, but Ahmed is also committed to fostering understanding around the challenges faced by queer Muslims in Britain, notably after experiencing rejection from his family at the age of 18 due to his sexuality.
Ahmed has not only been vocal about his journey but also actively advocates for other LGBTQ+ Muslims. Now at 30, he shares his life in Chigwell, Essex with his partner and co-star Joe Blackman. Through his personal and public life, Ahmed strives to inspire other families to accept and support their children regardless of sexual orientation.
Saturday mornings for Ahmed mean brewing coffee and making breakfast for himself and his partner. He enjoys a calm start to the weekend with home-cooked food, television, and positive energy. A sense of order and care defines both his relationship and his daily routine, as he prefers to take the lead to keep life seamless. Bringing together his cultural heritage and everyday habits, Ahmed has adapted the traditional English breakfast his mother used to make, adding elements from his South Asian roots and keeping it halal for his household.
“I just want to be me, to be proud of who I am.”[7]
“I love a chilled Saturday morning, a nice home cooked breakfast, watching telly, fresh orange juice, and just really nice vibes.”[1]
Junaid Ahmed’s openness and resilience have made him a beacon for LGBTQ+ visibility, showing how faith, culture, and love can coexist both on and off the screen.
