4 Lee County school district employees face termination or suspension Tuesday

Lee County School Board Considers Termination of Four Employees

The Lee County School Board will review superintendent Denise Carlin's recommendations to terminate four employees during a quasi-judicial hearing on Tuesday morning.

Reasons for Proposed Terminations

Individual Cases

Nuria Acuna

Acuna is accused of giving vapes to students, including Lundynne Carroll, who was suspended for possession. Acuna tested positive for cocaine in February.

Jose Villafane

Villafane, a custodian, faces allegations of insubordination and making inappropriate gestures toward the head custodian after receiving eight reprimands and a written warning.

Mariah Roller and Brooke Wold

Both middle school teachers are accused of violating five board policies and a Florida administrative code rule by posting controversial comments on social media about Charlie Kirk.

"What's that about the cost of the second amendment being 'some gun deaths every year,'? By Charlie." – Post attributed to Mariah Roller

Roller has since moved to another state.

"Remember Charlie did say, 'Some gun deaths are worth it.'" – Post attributed to Brooke Wold

Current Status

Acuna, Roller, and Wold have already filed appeals against the termination recommendations.

Summary: The Lee County School Board is set to decide on the dismissal or suspension of four employees accused of misconduct ranging from drug use to inappropriate social media posts.
