Claire Elise Boucher, professionally known as Grimes and former partner of billionaire Elon Musk, shared strong concerns about AI and its impact on children. The musician criticized the increasing influence of artificial intelligence, especially on social media platforms like X, which Musk owns.
“The biggest imminent threat is just outsourcing thinking.”
Grimes linked this threat directly to AI technology, highlighting her worries about how reliance on AI might reduce critical thinking. She pointed to Musk’s integration of AI into X, including the AI named Grok 3, which Musk described as “the smartest AI on Earth” in a recent presentation.
"I'm tired of experimenting on kids you know, smoking, MacDonalds and now we're gonna do it with this?"
Addressing the issue to journalist Joshua Citarella, Grimes expressed frustration about the exposure of children to new risks, now including AI. Musk’s platform, which uses both text and image-based AI, is open to users aged 13 and up without any age verification process.
While fearing the potential dangers of AI, including its ability to harm children, Grimes also acknowledged a cautious anticipation for future AI developments.
"In some ways I can't wait for superintelligence - in some ways I can't wait. It's not as easy since I've had kids."
Her comments suggest a complex view, balancing hope and concern regarding AI’s evolution.
Grimes warns that AI’s unchecked growth on platforms like X poses serious risks to children, urging caution while acknowledging the inevitable rise of superintelligent technologies.
