Liberal senator Sarah Henderson expressed doubts about the Coalition's future under leader Sussan Ley amid ongoing internal conflicts and leadership speculation.
Henderson admitted she could no longer support the status quo ahead of an important party room meeting scheduled for the following week.
“I do have to say really honestly, I do think Sussan is losing support,” Henderson told Sky News. “But I do believe in miracles.”
When asked if the party could recover with Ley in charge, she paused before stating she could not back the current approach.
“I'm not in the business of throwing anyone under the bus, I'm stating the bleeding obvious, we are in a dire situation,” she said. “The infighting has been terrible and I'm terribly sorry about what's been going on in the Liberal Party.”
Henderson called the meetings a “significant step forward” in defining the party’s position on energy and climate issues.
This follows a fortnight marked by damaging factional disputes and intense speculation around leadership changes.
