Reghan Grimes, a senior at Tennessee Tech, needed just five points to join the 1,000-point club but ended up scoring 24 points to lead the Golden Eagles to a 92-67 victory over the University of the Cumberlands at the Eblen Center.
The Golden Eagles shot nearly 50 percent overall (30-for-61), including 10-for-22 from three-point range and 22-for-33 at the free-throw line. However, foul trouble was a concern as Tech committed 33 fouls, with seven players close to disqualification.
"Reagan Hurst scored 10 points in her first regular-season game back following an injury before the start of last season's campaign."
This foul count gave the visiting Patriots 50 trips to the free-throw line, where they hit 32 shots at a 64-percent rate. Joy Kendrick led Cumberlands with 21 points, despite poor shooting from the field at 4-for-15, and was 12-for-15 at the free-throw line.
"Joy Kendrick, who was 12-for-15 at the stripe, led Cumberlands with 21 points despite going 4-for-15 from the field."
