Wendy's announced plans to shut down roughly 300 stores across the United States in the coming months. This decision follows an earlier announcement to close 150 locations in late 2024, bringing the total number of closures to over 350.
Wendy's, one of the ten most popular fast-food chains in New Jersey, may see some of its 145 local restaurants affected by the upcoming closures. Many of these locations are concentrated in South Jersey. However, specific stores targeted for closure have not been disclosed.
"When we look at the system today, we have some restaurants that do not elevate the brand and are a drag from a franchisee financial performance perspective," said Interim CEO Ken Cook during a quarterly earnings call on November 7. "The goal is to address and fix those restaurants."
Cook also mentioned the company aims to save select locations despite the widespread closures, with the process scheduled to begin later this year.
