Timothée Chalamet Visits Michael Heizer’s ‘City’ for Vogue Photoshoot

Actor Timothée Chalamet traveled to Michael Heizer’s monumental Land art installation, City, in Nevada for a Vogue photoshoot with photographer Annie Leibovitz.

About the Artwork

City is a massive installation spanning a mile-and-a-half long by half a mile wide in the Nevada desert. Construction began in 1970 and the piece finally opened in 2022 after decades of development.

“It’s just a totally remote experience,” Chalamet said about Heizer’s creation.

Chalamet on His Work and Collaboration

Though not focusing on art criticism, Chalamet discussed his upcoming project, the Josh Safdie–directed film Marty Supreme, where he plays a former table-tennis champion facing hardships.

He also praised Annie Leibovitz, expressing admiration for her dedication and professionalism during the shoot.

“Annie is an absolute beast. Sometimes when people become so ubiquitous or iconic, you can lose sight of how much effort goes in. She’s the first one up at 5:30 a.m. You’re coming downstairs, and she’s poring over materials.”
“She almost had a crazy compulsive creative attitude. She wasn’t concerned with anything but getting great stuff, and then I’m sure she went on to the next thing.”

Summary

Chalamet’s visit to City highlights both the monumental scale of Heizer’s work and the intense dedication behind artistic collaboration, especially exemplified by Leibovitz’s commitment to the shoot.
