Peloton warns customers to immediately stop using bikes, recalls nearly 900,000 due to 'fall and injury risk'

Peloton recalls nearly 900,000 bikes over injury risks

Peloton has issued a recall for its Original Series Bike+ model after receiving several reports of seat posts breaking, creating a potential risk of falls and injuries. The company urged all owners to stop using the bikes immediately and contact Peloton for a free replacement seat post.

Recall details

The recall involves approximately 833,000 units sold in the United States and about 44,800 in Canada. The affected bikes were manufactured between December 2019 and July 2022.

“As part of Peloton’s commitment to product safety and our loyal Members, we are voluntarily recalling certain seat posts on Peloton Original Series Bike+ models manufactured from December 2019 through July 2022, in cooperation with the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission),” the company stated.

Reason for the recall

The company emphasized that the recall was prompted by three reports of seat post failures among U.S. customers, each posing a risk of falling and injury during use. Peloton clarified that no similar incidents have been reported in Canada.

“The recall is due to the fact that the Original Series Bike+ seat post assembly can break during use, posing fall and injury hazards to the user,” Peloton explained.
