The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued an urgent warning for Peloton users to stop using certain exercise bikes immediately. The recall involves approximately 833,000 original Bike+ machines after reports that seat posts may break during use.
According to the CPSC, Peloton received three complaints about the defective seat posts. Two of those incidents resulted in injuries. The recalled units were sold between January 2020 and April 2025.
“The integrity of our products and our Members’ well-being are our top priorities,” said Márcio Oliveira, Peloton’s SVP of Global Hardware Operations and Product Safety.
He added that Peloton is offering redesigned replacement seat posts and encouraging affected users to contact the company for a free fix.
This recall follows another in 2023, when Peloton pulled around 2.2 million bikes from the market over similar safety concerns after reports of customer injuries. The company has faced multiple challenges in recent years, including a leadership change and staff layoffs in 2024.
Peloton is set to release its upcoming earnings report on Thursday as it works to rebound from a slowdown in post-pandemic sales and aims to restore consumer trust.
Author’s summary: Peloton recalls over 800,000 bikes after seat post issues cause injuries, marking another safety setback as the company seeks to recover from financial and operational troubles.
