Australian audiences will have the opportunity to witness Eddie Izzard's acclaimed acting in her one-woman performance of The Tragedy of Hamlet arriving in June 2026. The Emmy Award-winning and Tony Award-nominated actress returns after sold-out seasons in the US and UK.
The show has received recognition, including nominations for the NY Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Solo Performance and the New York Drama League’s Distinguished Performance Award. Mirroring Shakespeare’s original staging, Eddie performs on a bare stage, relying solely on the power of language and storytelling.
Adapted by Mark Izzard and directed by Selina Cadell, the production features Eddie embodying all 23 characters from the play. From the King of Denmark’s death to Prince Hamlet’s quest for vengeance, the story unfolds, involving a wide array of roles including men, women, ghosts, and poets.
“I have always gravitated towards playing complex and demanding characters,” Eddie said, “and Hamlet is the pinnacle. This production is for everyone – a timeless drama with an accidental hero. Selina, Mark and I want audiences to see and hear an accessible, touching, scary and dramatic Hamlet.”
The production promises a captivating experience as Eddie brings Shakespeare’s timeless tragedy to life with versatility and emotional depth.
