A woman accused of theft escaped from police custody on Thursday night, prompting a case registration at the MIDC Police Station. She was supposed to appear before the Andheri court on Friday but fled with her two young children.
The accused has been identified as Divya Vasant Kale, also known as Muskan Pawar, 32, from Shinde Shirasgaon, Lasur, Taluka Gangapur, District Sambhajinagar. Locals caught her red-handed in a theft and handed her over to the police.
Kale was booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and arrested. However, before her scheduled court appearance on Friday, she managed to escape custody with her two children, aged one-and-a-half years and seven months.
Following her escape, police registered another case under multiple sections of the BNS. A search operation is underway, and investigations continue to locate the accused.
