Clemson crushed Gardner-Webb 97-59 at Littlejohn Coliseum on Friday night. Nick Davidson led the Tigers with 18 points.
Carter Welling, a Utah Valley transfer, recorded his first double-double off the bench, scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. RJ Godfrey contributed 13 points on perfect shooting, and Ace Buckner added 11 points off the bench.
Gardner-Webb’s top scorers were Spence Sims and Jacob Hudson, each with 11 points. Sims also made a three-pointer to end Clemson’s early 14-3 run. However, foul trouble hit Gardner-Webb hard, as starters Julius Clark and Curtis Williams fouled out early in the second half.
The Tigers (2-0) have won their first two games by 50 and 38 points, marking the 10th time in program history they started a season with two victories by 25 or more points. This is also the first time since the 2009-10 season they opened with two wins by at least 35 points.
Clemson returns to action on November 11, hosting Morehead State at 7 p.m.
