Opposition skills and training spokesman Scott Buchholz urged the public not to confuse Sussan Ley’s “feminine politeness” for weakness. The Queensland MP highlighted the contrast between Ley’s consultative leadership style and the former “authoritarian” approach under Peter Dutton.
“Don’t mistake her feminine politeness for weakness. We have come from a previous leadership style of authoritarian [under Dutton] to now a consultative, and some people mistake that, but there are just different styles of leadership.”
Buchholz also addressed recent remarks made by Victorian Liberal senator Sarah Henderson, describing her comments on Ley’s leadership as “career-limiting” after being informed of them. He emphasized the party’s ongoing recovery from the May election defeat and the need for time to heal.
“I see Sussan doing incredible things, given the circumstances that she’s been having to do with it. I think what the party’s struggling with is the style of leadership that Susan brings.”
