The White House is set to reveal later Thursday that an additional nation will establish diplomatic relations with Israel through the Abraham Accords, according to Steve Witkoff, U.S. President Donald Trump's special envoy.
“I'm flying back to Washington tonight because we're going to announce, tonight, another country coming into the Abraham Accords,” Witkoff said at the America Business Forum in Miami.
During President Trump's first term, the Abraham Accords led several Arab countries to normalize ties with Israel in 2020. This marked a significant diplomatic shift in the Middle East.
The accords have considerably isolated and weakened the Palestinians by undermining a long-held Arab consensus that recognition of Israel should depend on progress in the peace process. Palestinians, enduring Israeli occupation for years, view these agreements as a betrayal by Arab nations that had promised to support Palestinian independence and push Israel to withdraw from territories acquired after 1948.
