The anticipated sequel Wicked: For Good premieres in theaters on Friday, November 21. The original Wicked movie, launched in November 2024, quickly captured audiences worldwide and became a cultural phenomenon.
The film adapts the beloved Broadway musical, exploring the deep friendship between Glinda (Ariana Grande), the Good Witch of the North, and Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), the Wicked Witch of the West. Once roommates in college, a series of events tore them apart, turning them into the famed adversaries known from The Wizard of Oz.
At the conclusion of the first film, Glinda and Elphaba reach Emerald City to confront the Wizard of Oz (Jeff Goldblum), hoping he can prevent the mysterious silencing of Ozian animals. It is revealed that the Wizard is responsible and seeks Elphaba’s aid in his grand plans for Oz.
Elphaba refuses and flees Oz, determined to save the animals on her own.
Meanwhile, Glinda remains in Oz, seemingly gaining favor with the Wizard and the ruling powers by the film's end.
The sequel promises new twists and its own unique take on the story’s resolution. While fans familiar with the musical anticipate the overall arc, the film aims to reveal fresh developments and surprises.
The original film, Wicked: One Wonderful Night, is available exclusively on Peacock.
