Teachers will receive a total salary increase of 5.8 percent over 16 months, following a new collective bargaining agreement between employers' associations and the trade union NOS. The previous agreement expired on November 1, and the new deal is retroactive from that date, lasting until March 1, 2027.
This agreement covers both primary and secondary school teachers, affecting approximately 190,000 primary education employees and over 113,000 in secondary schools.
“By coordinating wage agreements, we prevent a new pay gap from emerging between primary and secondary education,” said Abhilash Sewgobind, CNV trade union negotiator.
Addressing heavy workloads on teachers remains a priority. The CNV union emphasized the need for trust and support from policymakers.
“This is about trusting the people who make a difference every day. Teachers, school leaders, and support staff need the freedom to perform their work properly. It’s the responsibility of policymakers to demonstrate that trust, through investment in education, not budget cuts,” the CNV stated.
Summary: The new agreement raises teachers' salaries by 5.8% over 16 months, expands allowances, and highlights the need for greater support to reduce high work pressure on education staff.
