Rick Stein has expressed feeling "sad" following the closure of one of his restaurants amid ongoing financial difficulties. The renowned restaurateur is widely recognized for his television cookery, food, and travel programs, alongside his portfolio of restaurants and enterprises—primarily located in Padstow, Cornwall.
After growing up in Churchill near Chipping Norton and graduating from New College, Oxford, Stein relocated to Cornwall in the early 1970s. Since then, his business empire has significantly expanded. Currently, he owns four establishments in Cornwall, a restaurant situated in the prestigious 'millionaire’s row' at Sandbanks in Dorset, and several other venues throughout southern England.
Last month, Stein's Marlborough restaurant closed abruptly, coinciding with financial losses reported by his businesses. Seafood Trading Ltd recorded a pre-tax loss of £1,146,000 for 2024, following a £892,000 loss the previous year. Additionally, Stein’s Trading Ltd reported a pre-tax loss of £290,000.
He stated he is "sad" that the Marlborough restaurant closed on October 5.
