Some celebrity chefs divide opinions, while others attract specific audiences. However, Rick Stein is widely loved. The renowned UK chef and TV personality has been a staple on Australia’s east coast dining scene for over 15 years, visiting so frequently that he feels like an unofficial Aussie.
This summer, Stein will bring his signature style of simple yet exquisite seafood to Sydney's Eastern Suburbs. He already owns two successful restaurants in New South Wales: Bannisters by the Sea in Mollymook (opened in 2009) and Bannisters Port Stephens (established in 2018).
For seven years, there was no hint of another Australian venture until earlier this year, when it was announced that Stein and his wife Sarah (‘Sas’) will open a new 224-seat restaurant, Rick Stein at Coogee Beach, located in the new InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach hotel.
“The truth of it is that the two Bannisters hotels and my restaurants were taken over by Salter Brothers in October last year. That was a bit of a surprise. But actually starting to work with Salter Brothers, I realised how professional they were and how much I liked working with them.” – Rick Stein
Despite the takeover initially catching him off guard, Stein found a productive and enjoyable partnership with the investment management group Salter Brothers, which has positively influenced his business outlook.
Author’s summary: Rick Stein, beloved for his seafood restaurants in Australia, is expanding to a new large venue in Coogee Beach, embracing a promising partnership with Salter Brothers.
