Jenn Lyon, Taran Killam, and Kristin Chenoweth star in NBC’s new mockumentary-style sitcom, Stumble, which explores the energetic and intense world of junior college cheerleading.
The show follows Courteney Potter, a sharply deadpan cheerleading coach played by Jenn Lyon (Claws), who faces a sudden career setback after being fired from Sammy Davis Sr. Junior College in Wichita Flats, Texas. The dismissal comes in the wake of a viral victory-party video involving alcohol, the cheer squad, and a dubious “Best Booty” award.
Courteney then lands a new coaching job at a junior college in the fictional town of Heådltston, Oklahoma — a place known for its candy-button factory but lacking a cheer team. Compounding her challenges, the locals struggle to pronounce the town’s name correctly.
Stumble offers a quirky and humorous perspective on the competitive cheerleading scene, highlighting both the physical risks and emotional setbacks involved.
“If you’re one of the fans who can recite the entire cheeky opening cheer from the 2000 teen cult classic flick ‘Bring It On’ (‘I’m sexy, I’m cute! I’m everything you’re not…’), you deserve a spirit stick.”
Only the first two episodes were available for review, hinting at a promising mix of spirited comedy and offbeat characters.
Stumble delivers a fresh, witty take on college cheerleading through its spirited performances and sharp mockumentary style, promising laughs and heart in equal measure.
