Daniel Hillier has advanced into a tie for fifth place, just three strokes behind the leader, as the final round approaches at the DP World Tour’s Abu Dhabi Championship.
The 27-year-old delivered his best round so far, shooting a seven-under-par 65. His round included nine birdies, with two on the final holes, propelling him to 17-under total for the tournament.
Hillier is tied for fifth alongside Englishman Andy Sullivan, trailing leader Aaron Rai who sits at 20-under. With 18 holes remaining, he remains a strong contender.
With a prize fund of US$9 million ($16 million), the winner will take home US$1.53 million. Beyond the prize, Hillier aims to secure a PGA Tour card for 2026. The top 10 DP World Tour players not yet exempt earn PGA Tour cards for the following season. Currently ranked 20th on the DP World Tour, Hillier needs to improve his standing to qualify.
Kazuma Kobori, another Kiwi, posted a three-under 69 in the third round, moving to 10-under overall. After sharing the lead in round one, Kobori was setback by a triple-bogey eight on the last hole of round two.
