Sara Cox's Children in Need Marathon Challenge

The Radio 2 DJ Sara Cox is undertaking a demanding 135-mile challenge to support Children in Need. The event returns this year with Sara embarking on a five-day journey.

Route and Schedule

Sara, originally from Bolton, begins her trek in Kielder Forest near the Scottish border on Monday, November 10, and plans to finish in Pudsey, Leeds by Friday, November 14. This "Great Northern Marathon Challenge" involves running, jogging, and walking across four counties: Northumberland, Durham, North Yorkshire, and West Yorkshire.

Inspiration and Purpose

Sara is following the example of her Radio 2 colleague Paddy McGuinness, who last year raised £10 million after completing a tough cycling challenge. Unlike Paddy, Sara will cover the entire distance on foot.

Carrying Pudsey Bear

Throughout the challenge, Sara will carry Pudsey bear, symbolically delivering it to its home in Pudsey, Leeds.

"We’re talking 135 miles of hills, moors and blisters – but I am ready for the challenge, and I will absolutely be giving it everything I’ve got!"
"When they picked me to get Pudsey to Pudsey, I was honoured and horrified in equal measure."

Final Goal

Sara aims to complete her journey in time to join the Friday night Children in Need broadcast on BBC One.

Summary: Sara Cox embarks on a challenging 135-mile foot marathon across northern England to raise funds for Children in Need, carrying Pudsey bear to its namesake town.
