Sally Kirkland Is in Hospice After Dementia Diagnosis and Life-Threatening Infections

Sally Kirkland, the 84-year-old actress known for her role in Bruce Almighty, is currently in hospice care. She was hospitalized in Palm Springs after being diagnosed with dementia in 2024, according to her representative Michael Greene. Her former student and friend, Cody Galloway, is staying by her side.

“Our beloved friend, Sally Kirkland, has graced the stage and screen, inspiring audiences and lifting the spirits of countless many both in and out of the Hollywood community as an actress, teacher, and minister.”

Health Challenges and Recovery

Over the past year, Sally suffered fractures in four bones—her neck, right wrist, and left hip. During her recovery, she developed two separate life-threatening infections. These combined injuries and infections demanded lengthy hospital stays and rehabilitation, exceeding the 100-day coverage provided by her insurance.

“As the days pass, lack of proper care greatly diminishes Sally’s chance of a full recovery. However, with the right medical support, we know she has a strong chance of overcoming this setback and returning to the work she loves.”

A GoFundMe campaign has been established to help support Sally Kirkland as she faces these medical challenges.
