Sentimental and Somber Royal Jewels on Remembrance Sunday in London

Members of the British royal family gathered in Whitehall this morning for the annual Remembrance Sunday ceremony, a solemn commemoration honoring those who gave their lives for their country. The women of the family wore military insignias and crimson poppies, reflecting the gravity of the event.

The King attended the service alongside the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Edinburgh. Together, they participated in the wreath-laying ceremony at the Cenotaph, a central part of this long-standing tradition.

Absent this year was the Princess Royal, typically among the wreath layers. She and her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, are on an official visit to Australia, where they marked the day at the ANZAC Memorial in Sydney.

Other members of the royal family observed the proceedings from balconies overlooking the memorial, continuing a practice followed for more than a century. The Queen and the Princess of Wales shared a balcony at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

During the service, Queen Camilla wore a diamond brooch shaped like the cap badge of The Rifles. She has served as Colonel-in-Chief of this infantry regiment since 2020, succeeding the late Duke of Edinburgh.

"The ladies of the family all wore military badges and crimson poppies for the occasion."
