M25 completely shut after air ambulance called to 'multi-vehicle' crash - recap

M25 Completely Shut Following Multi-Vehicle Crash

There were significant delays for drivers after a multi-vehicle accident on the M25 anticlockwise between junction 25 (A10 Great Cambridge Road, Enfield) and junction 24 (A111 Stagg Hill, Potters Bar). Traffic monitoring site Inrix reported severe delays with one lane closed and congestion extending to junction 26 (Waltham Abbey).

Traffic was also slow on the opposite side due to onlookers. Alternative routes through Enfield, Edmonton, and the North Circular around the Great Cambridge Interchange experienced heavy congestion as drivers sought to avoid the incident.

"#M25 is CLOSED anti-clockwise between J25 (#WalthamCross) and J23 (#PottersBar) due to a collision. Delays of 60 mins, 4 miles of congestion. The injury is not as serious as initially feared."

The M25 clockwise carriageway was initially closed between junctions 23 (#A1M) and 25 for the arrival of an air ambulance, which was called to the crash site. National Highways later confirmed the clockwise side is now open between these junctions.

National Highways stated that delays exceeding an hour were expected, with roughly three miles of congestion remaining. Currently, three out of four lanes are open, with delays around 20 minutes and four miles of slow-moving traffic.
