Carmelo Anthony shared his insight on what Cade Cunningham must improve to elevate his game. While Cunningham has quietly grown into one of the NBA's most exciting young talents, Melo believes there's still room to reach superstar status.
Anthony recognizes Cunningham as an impressive player whose progress hasn't drastically changed since being the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 Draft. According to Melo, the main improvement has been Cunningham's "feel" for the game.
“His feel. Like, the feel for the game, his flow of the game,” Anthony stated on his podcast 7PM in Brooklyn.
Melo explained that Cunningham is beginning to realize his leadership responsibilities on the court, which brings both confidence and accountability.
“I think what we’re seeing with Cade, he’s starting to understand that he’s wearing the white hat and he’s running that organ. So, with that comes confidence. With that comes responsibility, too.”
One significant growth area for Cunningham has been his passing. From averaging 5.6 assists per game in his rookie season, he became one of the league’s top facilitators, averaging 9.1 assists per game last season and maintaining a similar performance this season.
Cunningham's evolving leadership and improved feel for the game are essential for unlocking his superstar potential, according to Carmelo Anthony.
