On Monday evening, a powerful explosion near Gate No. 1 of Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station resulted in at least eight fatalities and multiple vehicles being destroyed, confirmed by Delhi Police to CNBC-TV18.
The blast occurred around 6:52 pm and is believed to have originated from a parked car. The explosion triggered a rapid and intense fire in the vicinity. The Delhi Fire Service deployed at least seven fire tenders to control the blaze.
Authorities have cordoned off the site while forensic teams investigate the cause. Initial reports suggest the blast may have involved a CNG cylinder.
FSL Officer Mohamad Wahid said, “The samples will be taken to the laboratory, and after that, only we can make any confirmation… Everything will be known after the examination…”
In response to the incident, a high alert has been declared across Delhi.
Following the explosion near Lal Quila, Himachal Pradesh Police issued an advisory with guidelines urging people to stay vigilant and alert. The public has been asked to immediately contact the nearest police station or dial emergency number 112 if they encounter suspicious objects, unattended bags, or vehicles.
People are also cautioned against panic and spreading rumors or unverified information on social media.
