Senator Jacky Rosen shifted her stance and voted to end the prolonged federal shutdown, marking a turning point in the nation’s longest government closure. On Sunday, a bipartisan group of lawmakers began shaping a plan to end the crisis, as several Senate Democrats joined Republicans in support of reopening the government.
“For the last 40 days, I’ve been fighting tooth and nail to hold President Trump and my Republican colleagues accountable and make sure Congress takes action to prevent a massive spike in health care costs for millions of hardworking families who will be financially devastated by these increases.”
Rosen emphasized that the extended shutdown has revealed troubling uses of political power, accusing Washington Republicans of exploiting the situation to impose suffering on working Americans. She pointed to withheld SNAP benefits and the slowdown of air travel as key examples.
“Trump and his Republican cronies on Capitol Hill do not give a damn about hurting working people, and their conduct over the last month has been nothing short of appalling.”
She noted that Senate Democrats managed to secure a concession: a vote on a Democratic-led bill aimed at extending Affordable Care Act tax credits.
“Let me be clear: I will keep fighting like hell to ensure we force Republicans to get this done.”
Senator Jacky Rosen broke ranks to help end the federal shutdown, highlighting deep political divides while vowing continued pressure on Republicans to protect health care and working families.
