A tragic accident occurred this afternoon in Dandenong, where a woman and a child lost their lives after falling into a local waterway. The incident took place near Allan Street at approximately 3:45 p.m.
According to a witness, the two were swept away by the current of Dandenong Creek. It is believed that the woman entered the water to rescue the child but soon found herself in trouble as well.
Police and emergency teams quickly arrived at the scene and located both victims unconscious. They were pulled from the creek and given CPR.
Despite the best efforts of emergency personnel, both the woman and the child could not be revived and were pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not yet confirmed their identities. A report will be prepared for the coroner.
