Current Facilities and Limitations
Ferndale Park on Metcalfe Road hosts four major sporting clubs with around 400 members. The park has three sporting ovals, but only two are equipped with lighting. This limits evening training opportunities, especially during winter months.

The city is in the detailed planning stage for redeveloping the park, which will include:
- A state-of-the-art clubroom
- Modern changeroom facilities
- Existing cricket nets
- Playground
- Pavilion
- Scouts building

Additional works will feature extensive landscaping, improved car parking, and general upgrades to the park.
Lighting Upgrade Details
The immediate priority is to install lighting of up to 100 lux at one oval, which can be switched to 50 lux, to support safe training and match play for large ball sports. This upgrade will also help address the shortage of suitable Australian rules football grounds within the city.
The lighting improvement is estimated to cost just over $500,000, with $165,000 requested from City Night Lights, $40,000 already secured, and the city covering the remaining $298,000.
